Scentsy Candles

The Scentsy Story

Scentsy began in 2003 with the powerfully simple idea of aromatic candles – decorative warmers with wax melted by the heat of a light bulb instead of a traditional wick and flame. Colette Gunnell and Kara Egan, Scentsy’s founders, shared enthusiasm for the idea. From this idea, they created a partnership and Scentsy was born.

Enter Orville Thompson, who first encountered Scentsy at a home show in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2004. When Orville saw the candles made by this tiny Utah company, he immediately knew they had huge potential.

Sensing there was something special about the wickless candle concept, he brought a handful of testers home to his wife, Heidi, and her mother and sister. After introducing them to the testers, he left them alone. When he returned an hour later, the women were still smelling the testers, laughing and sharing memories.

Orville and Heidi were intrigued by how smelling different scents brought powerful emotions and memories to the surface, and how natural it was to share those feelings and memories with others.

Within months, Orville and Heidi purchased Scentsy from Kara and Colette, bringing the tiny company to Idaho where its first home was literally a metal box. Orville had a 40-foot ocean shipping container on his small sheep farm, which housed Scentsy’s manufacturing and shipping operations for several months.

Orville and Heidi decided to market and sell Scentsy products directly to consumers through home parties. On July 1, 2004, Scentsy signed its first Consultant and officially became a direct selling “Party Plan” company.

Now celebrating its sixth anniversary, Scentsy is a recognized industry-leading company. In 2009 the Direct Selling Association awarded Scentsy its highest honor available to young companies, the Rising Star Award, for its growth and commitment to ethical business practices. In 2010, it was ranked 19th on the Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing privately held companies, and number one on the Inc. 500 list of consumer products and services companies.

With more than 70,000 active Independent Scentsy Consultants throughout North America, Puerto Rico, Guam and Canada, Scentsy is poised to lead the industry for the next five years and beyond.

What began in 2004 as a simple idea has truly grown into something extraordinary, as Scentsy continues to touch thousands of lives in profound ways.

Fine Dots Lampwork Beads & Jewelry

Always loving color and design, Sandy Anderson expressed herself through paper dolls in elementary school to sewing, interior design and upholstery as an adult. After retiring as a County Extension Agent from from The University of Georgia Extension Service, her daughter's school counselor invited her to take an Introduction to Glass Beads class in 2003. Getting to be creative and play with all the glass colors was mesmerizing; while her practical side wanted to use the beads.

After years of classes with Margo Knight at the Spruill Center for the Arts and other classes with Heather Trimlett, Kristina Logan, Dustin Tabor and other reknown lampwork artists, she now feels confident to share her designs with you.

Friends and family have enjoyed wearing her art and she hopes you will too. Every bead and piece of jewelry is created in her studio on Saint Simons Island.

Besides lampworking, she enjoys her Boston Terriers, reading and the beach. Sandy is a member of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers and Southern Flames.

About The Artist
I have been designing and creating jewelry for over 6 years, adding fused recycled glass to my work in 2007. All of the pieces, made from a variety of recycled bottles, are hand-cut and kiln-fired in my studio in Colbert, Georgia.

My eco-friendly line of necklaces, bracelets, earrings and pendants has an organic yet elegant feel, with natural variations making each truly unique. Their beautiful colors echo the earth, sky, water and foliage.

Creating jewelry from recycled glass appeals to me on so many levels:

I believe in recycling today for a more beautiful tomorrow! Recycled glass is an environmentally conscious choice. It's readily available yet it's an uncommon alternative to traditional materials.
I love being inventive and getting lost in the artistic process. Working with recycled glass has made me think outside the box, developing specialized firing and finishing methods. Returning to my childhood passion for creativity has been wonderfully liberating.
I delight in sharing my work with people who appreciate owning and wearing my art. Imagine the thrill of spotting a customer in the world's busiest airport and hearing the enthusiasm in her voice as she tells her traveling companions about my jewelry she was wearing! For any artist, it just doesn’t get much better.
My parents encouraged my creativity at an early age. An endless supply of paints, markers and paper kept me busy. I was a bit of a tinkerer too, trying to figure out how things worked. Nothing was safe from my little hands with tools: Grandma’s washing machine, a clock radio and a vacuum cleaner just to name a few.

After years of making a living in the corporate world, I’ve embraced my inner tinkerer and artist again. Recycled glass is a beautiful medium to work with and there’s a true science to fusing glass. My tools of choice these days are a bit larger and electric, but I still get same thrill I did as a kid when I make something.

Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you enjoy the unique jewelry I have made from recycled glass and remember to Go Green Gorgeously™!

The Family Affair

Backyard Safari Co.

Pulled from their site
Clyde and Sherri found that after selling their chocolate factory and moving to the country, they made more and more excuses to stay and entertain at home.
Gardening and butterflies, became a passion for Sherri and most days Clyde can be found tromping through the woods, camera in hand, with their three dogs, identifying plants and trees and photographing the amazing scenes found in nature.

A perfect weekend, is hanging out with friends and family, throwing some burgers on the grill, and watching the kids play in the yard. Gathering together to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

They created The Backyard Safari Company as a reflection of their love of nature and the coming together of friends and family; sharing a sense of community and realizing what matters most in life.

Whether it's spending time together around the dinner table with family or chatting with friends over the garden fence, it’s the people around us that make the difference. So celebrate life, enjoy every moment and discover the adventure in your own backyard!

Featured Vendor 2010 - Stella & Dot

Our Vision
A few years ago, our founder and mother of two, Jessica Herrin, had a vision to create a new kind of company that would help today's busy woman thrive. As a successful entrepreneur, who co-founded WeddingChannel.com (yes, you saw her on Oprah!), Jessica wanted to use her talents to help solve the modern woman's dilemma. How to find a successful career you love that you can balance with a bustling life and family? Never satisfied with the status quo, Jessica felt too many of the existing home based business opportunities offered ho hum products, high pressure sales tactics, and limited marketing opportunities with a dated approach. Worse yet, far too many of these 'opportunities' just put inventory and supplies in people's closets, and no profits in their pockets.
Jessica's vision called for an entirely new concept- an opportunity that combined the best of direct sales with the ease of e-commerce and social networking to create an oh so doable business more flexible and lucrative, fun and stylish, than ever before. All built on a foundation of irresistible product and exceedingly personal service.
Stella & Dot is a company inspired by and created for strong women- just like you.
